Icecast is a streaming media server which currently supports [[Ogg]] ([[Vorbis]] and [[Theora]]), [[Opus]] and WebM audio streams. MP3 works too, but it is not officially supported due to it's non-free nature.


Icecast is an open-source streaming server for Unix/Linux and Windows. It supports Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Theora and  MP3.
It can be used to create an Internet radio station or a privately running jukebox and many things in between. It is very versatile in that new formats can be added relatively easily and supports open standards for communication and interaction.
 
Icecast is distributed under the GNU GPL, version 2.
